Concept
With its diverse species and remarkable ability to thrive in harsh environments, the Protea flower serves as a poignant metaphor for the Borderland community. Within the species are plants with hundreds of colors and shapes, reflecting the rich tapestry of individual expression and creativity celebrated at Borderland.
Protea's regeneration after fire mirrors the cyclical nature of the Borderland itself: each year, we rise from the ashes, reborn with fresh ideas, boundless creativity, and an unwavering commitment to radical self-expression. The burning of the Protea effigy symbolizes not just an end, but a new beginning: a ritualistic cleansing that clears the path for new growth, renewal, and transformation.
